God & Country Day – July 1

On Memorial Day weekend we will have an unusual and inspiring worship service which has become an annual event at Metropolitan. “God and Country Day” will be a time of remembrance and recognition as we give thanks for the sacrifices of those who have given their lives for freedom in the service of our country. We will honor all military veterans who are present, we will enjoy beautiful patriotic music, and we will be led in intercessory prayers for our nation.

Missions Moment

“I’m praying for you.” “All you can do is pray.” “Just keep praying.” Sometimes we belittle our privilege of prayer, much like always responding to “how are you?” with an automatic “fine” regardless of our true condition. Our spiritual condition is so much more important and so dependent on our prayer lives. Below are two […]

Between Two Worlds

“Praying is not like carpentry or cooking. It is the active exercise of a personal relationship, a kind of friendship with the living God and His Son, Jesus Christ.” These words by James Packer remind us of what we read in scripture: “God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with His Son, Jesus […]

Hungry for Fellowship?

Fifty-seven members of Metropolitan have been experiencing rich friendship and fellowship in small groups. Since our new community group ministry was launched last fall, these folks would say they have been growing in their Christian lives as they learn, share and pray together. Presently we have six community groups meeting in homes in different neighborhoods. […]

Marriage Event Cancelled

We deeply regret having to cancel the marriage conference this weekend. Our guest speaker, Dr. Rod Cooper, is ill and unable to come.  There simply was not enough time for us to secure another speaker. We are often perplexed by the interruptions, delays and confusing circumstances of life. But our faith teaches us that “God […]

Preparing for Sunday…

A Surprising Example of Great Faith Among the examples of faith in the gospel of Luke, is a man whose story surprises us. He was not a Jew, he was a Roman, and a soldier at that. Furthermore, he was an officer, a centurion, a man of authority and influence. Luke 7:1-10 also tells us […]

Our Church Has a Great Future

We believe Metropolitan is poised to achieve great things for God. We see it in the character and faithfulness of our teachers, elders, deacons and other ministry leaders. We see it in the willing spirit of volunteerism, as our members use their spiritual gifts to serve in ministries. We see it in the worship, the […]

Concert of Prayer Sunday at 6:00 P.M.

A.W. Tozer famously remarked that if the Holy Spirit were absent from many American churches, the people would hardly notice. Reliance on programming, technology, material wealth and human ingenuity all too often takes the place of reliance on the Spirit and power of God. We do not want that to be true of us. Surely […]

Together in Prayer

On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God.” (Acts 4:23-24a NIV) The church in America is not being persecuted in the same way as the […]
