Amazing Grace, to missionary Jean Stratmeyer, best describes her life in Christ. Jean and her late husband, Dennis, met at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. They graduated in 1953 and married in 1955. In 1957 they arrived in Guatemala to work with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They were assigned to the Mayan Jacaltec people.
The work of translating the New Testament expanded to include medical and dental aid, literacy classes, building projects and eventually, the translation of the entire Bible.
Dennis joined heaven’s ranks in 2008. Jean and the translation team recently completed work on the Bible manuscript and have turned it over to the publishers! Jean looks forward to printed Bibles being available to the Jacaltec people soon.
In looking back over the past 59 years, Jean can agree with the words of the hymn, Amazing Grace. “Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come. ‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.”
Jean is grateful to Metropolitan for their support and encouragement through the years. We will honor her work in Bible translation Wednesday evening, September 28, at 6:45 p.m. in the Family Life Center Gymnasium as part of the close to our Missions Festival. Bring your family to eat with our visiting missionaries and to celebrate what God has done through the ministry of Jean Stratmeyer. His grace is amazing!
