Discerning the Voice of God

A new ladies’ Bible study will start January 9 with Priscilla Shirer’s book, Discerning the Voice of God. The study will last for six weeks. According to the publisher’s description: “This Bible study is designed to help participants know the voice of God: His language, character, and tone of voice.

Kingdom Hope

As the year draws to a close, and we think about the coming year, it is good to remember that God has a plan for human history. It will culminate in a kingdom. For centuries, going all the way back to the ancient prophets of Israel, believers have looked forward to the full revelation of God’s glory in an earthly kingdom.

God Hugged Me

When I was a young girl, the hymn, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” was my favorite, and it was on page 220 in our small town church hymnal. I always asked to sing “number 220” on request nights, thus forever burning the association of the song and the number into my mind. When I was in my 30’s, I started noticing how often I would see the number on clocks, scoreboards, etc.

4 Ways to Know If Our Marriage Conference Is a Success

Someone asked me after last year’s marriage conference if I thought it was a success. I was thrilled on so many levels, so my automatic response was a resounding, “Yes!” Today in our planning session we entertained the same question, “How will we know if the marriage conference is a success?” Here’s what we came up with. Did we make a significant gift to our community?

Candlelight Christmas

Have you ever wanted to see the sights in Bethlehem the night Jesus was born? Did you want to watch as Mary and Joseph made their way to the village, looking for a place to stay, and found rest in a stable? Have you wanted to hear the sounds of the heavenly hosts as they sang of Jesus’ birth and see the reaction of the shepherds to this wondrous sight?

The Many Moods of Christmas

The Many Moods of Christmas is a collection of 18 Christmas carols, divided into four suites, arranged for choir and orchestra by Robert Shaw and Robert Bennett. These carols were originally performed and recorded by the Robert Shaw Chorale in 1963. Metropolitan’s Adult Choir and Orchestra will perform the first three suites in our 8:30 a.m.

Christmas Compassion – All Year Long

Charles Colson was an advocate for Christian activism. He taught that one of the reasons America is becoming a post-Christian society is the church’s retreat from community involvement. In one of his books he said: “Members will help the poor and needy as long as they don’t have to dirty their own hands to do it.

Holiday Schedule Changes

There will be no Wednesday evening programs on Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day) or on Wednesday, January 1 (New Year’s Day). Our full schedule of midweek ministries will resume on Wednesday, January 8, at 6:45 p.m. The church offices will be closed December 24-25 and January 1.
