Dead Sea Scrolls Fragments On Display Sunday

This Sunday at Metropolitan we will have the honor of seeing three rare and extremely valuable fragments of a manuscript found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. It will be from the Green family’s extensive collection of priceless ancient documents related to the history of the Bible. The Green Collection holds more than 40,000 biblical antiquities and has been featured via the worldwide traveling exhibition “Passages” here in the United States, and the “Verbum Domini” exhibit in Rome.

Colossal Coaster World

Vacation Bible School is coming June 10-14 for children who have completed kindergarten through completed 5th grade. This year we are using an amusement park theme based on the scripture 2 Timothy 1:7 (HCSB): “For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.” This year’s VBS is entitled “Lifeway’s Colossal Coaster World™: Facing Fear, Trusting God.” Children will be challenged each day through a daily theme to tap into God’s promise to give them the c…

Learning From the Ancients

The story of the Dead Sea Scrolls is a fascinating chapter in the study of biblical archaeology. The story of their discovery is well known. In 1947 Bedouin goatherds found large clay pots containing 2000-year-old manuscripts hidden in caves above the Dead Sea.

Young Adult Lunch

“And a good time was had by all” really would have been an apt description for the April 14 lunch we enjoyed with members of five young adult Sunday morning classes: MYA 1.0, MYA 2.0, MYA 3.0, Covenant Journey and Firm Foundations. Five high school seniors also joined us, and we are hoping they will soon become part of our college/career ministry. Around 50 people came, and left encouraged by the time together.

Just for Women

Ladies, several events have been planned, either here at Metropolitan or in the Oklahoma City area, to strengthen, encourage, and challenge us in our spiritual walk and sphere of influence. On Monday, April 29, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall we will be privileged to hear Jenny Broughton at our Spring Fling event.

Purpose Teams Serving Their Purpose

Purpose Teams are serving their purpose! If you check out the “Get Connected” link on our church website, you’ll see how Purpose Teams are meeting needs within our church and sharing Christ’s message with our community. The “Outdoor Adventures” Team plans various events where church members can share personal time and experiences with their children or grandchildren.

Children on Their Hearts

Three of the organizations we support through Faith Promise giving are involved in the evangelism and discipleship of children. Though their ministries reach adults, children are on their hearts.  Child Evangelism Fellowship utilizes Bible clubs set in neighborhoods, schools, and community centers to share Christ with children. Their Bible correspondence course has reached more than 130 countries.

What’s Fun About Being a Pastor?

I had a really fun day recently. In one 24-hour period I had the privilege of helping a couple prepare for marriage, of visiting in the home of a godly senior adult, of meeting with a team of ministry leaders who are excited about an outreach of our church to the community, of praying with a wonderful group of adults and then leading them in a lively discussion-based Bible study. Then the following morning I had breakfast with a friend with whom I meet weekly for discipleship training.
